First time cloth diaper users, might ask – “What do I need to get started”? We have listed all the things you will need to get started with our OS (one size) cloth diapering system. The nice thing about starting with OS cloth diapers is that they are very easy to use. Unlike other diapers on the market our OS cloth diapers only require a few accessories and are inexpensive. One Size cloth diapers are ideal for everyday use, out-of-home use, overnights and naps.
Having said that you have the option of buying a few diapers to try out first, and then adding to your collection gradually. On the flip side, we highly recommend investing in our starter kits that are specifically catered to cover all of your cloth diapering needs.
How many diapers will I need?
We at Urban Baby Boutique are often asked “How many cloth diapers do I need”? Generally newborn babies will go thru 12-15 diaper changes a day, whereas toddlers may go through up to 8-12 in that same time frame. The standard rule of thumb is that you want to wash your soiled cloth diapers within 2-3 days for optimal efficiency. Since you don’t want to be doing laundry everyday and to avoid increase laundry costs and wearing out your diapers, we highly recommend you start off with 24 or 36 cloth diapers – enough for a simple, effortless and stress free rotation!
Here is a chart that is a helpful tool of reference when considering how many cloth diapers you would like to start with
|Number of Cloth Diapers||This will work best for|
|6 – 10||Using cloth diapers part-time|
|10 – 12||Washing everyday|
|18 – 24||Approximately 1-2 days between washing. 24 diapers are recommended as a bare minimum for the average parent and to improve the longevity of your diapers and to help reduce wear and tear|
|24 – 36||Washing 2 times a week (every 2-3 days between washes)|
|36 – 48+||Enough cloth diapers to pass on to siblings (may vary depending on wear and tear)|
